Stuck tugboat on Black Warrior River (aerials)

News release from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office: At approximately 930 AM we received a call regarding a tug boat Southbound on the Black Warrior River, North of the Hwy 11 bridge in Fosters that had lost power and was floating with the rivers current. Our aviation unit was dispatched and utilized the Microwave Downlink, which is a device that allows real time video to be relayed from the helicopter, that allowed us to update the State Troopers, Marine Police, Parker Towing, ALDOT and our deputies as to the progress of the barge. The video from the Sheriff's Office helicopter also enabled us to see the rescue tug and notify all responders once it reached the distressed vessel and stopped the barges. Parker Towing does not own the tugboat or barges in question. We used them as a facilitator and they were a tremeandous help in this situation.
